Introduction to Interior Design: Plus

With the essential skills already mastered, this course will continue to consolidate and extend your interior design experience. Through a series of lectures, workshops and demonstrations you will become more confident and adventurous as you incorporate your newfound skills to construct a new design scheme for a domestic interior. You’ll be guided through the use of colour, soft furnishings and lighting and by the end of the course, you will have completed a portfolio of work to communicate professionally with future clients. Please note that this course requires dedication; students should therefore allow time to work on their project outside of class.

Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, you’ll have the confidence to start work on a design scheme by yourself. You will leave the course with a number of newfound design-related skills. Students may wish to progress to Modules Two and Three.

Who Should Attend
Designed to build on the skills learnt on the Introduction to Interior Design, this course will develop your knowledge and introduce you to a number of new skills. After successfully completing the course, you’ll be ready to progress to Modules Two and Three. If you haven’t taken the Introductory course, but have studied Interior Design before, please contact the Short Course Unit for an assessment before booking.

Tutor information

Lyndall Fernie is the lead tutor for Interior Design short courses at Chelsea College of Arts in London and Dubai.

Lyndall began her career in Italy as a professional fashion designer working with Moschino and Versace; later returning to the UK to work in PR for a record label where she worked with many well-known dance groups such as S’Express, Bomb the Bass and Deee-Lite. She went on to study Interior Design, at Chelsea College of Arts and ran Area Squared Design, a successful interior design company, for 10 years, designing high end residential properties in central London. During this time she also opened two interior design shops in the fashionable area of Islington in London selling beautiful interior products.

Lyndall is currently working as a design consultant for private clients, developers, and interior design companies, specialising in the remodelling of high end residential properties. As well as teaching at Chelsea College of Arts she has also taught at other leading design schools including London College of Communication, The Interior Design School London, KLC and The Design school in both Moscow and St Petersburg.

Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:

  • A collect images for your concept board using your chosen 5 adjectives
  • Retractable eraser
  • A3 pad of tracing paper
  • Propelling pencil 0.5 with 2H leads
  • Eraser
  • 300mm adjustable set square
  • Triangular scale ruler 1:50, 1:20 and 1:125
  • Masking tape
  • A2 portfolio to carry your work in.
  • Metal scalpel and 10A blades
